Pattern has an energy
that connects with people on an emotional level by
speaking to them in a way words alone can’t.
A very simple explanation of a pattern is a repeated decorative design.
More than that, pattern gives life, character, and movement to surfaces and adds visual interest to a space.
Why use pattern design?
Pattern can be used to create a stronger emotional attachment to products
The right pattern on the right product creates a chemistry that delights consumers and give them that “gotta have it” feeling. Pattern helps consumers create a stronger emotional attachment to a product because it can help the consumer express their individual style in a new and unexpected way.
As an example, I design patterned for the packaging elements of tampons and pads for three years at an agency before starting my own business, and as weird as it sounds, I now find those tampons to be so beautiful and love the process of buying them. They are currently sitting out in the bathrooms in my home for guests to see and use. Now if that doesn’t convince you to use pattern to tell your story, I don’t know what will!
Pattern CAN deepen the emotional connection that we have with a brand
Pattern has the ability to deepen the emotional connection that we have with a brand by communicating a story in a unique, visual way. You can create pattern for your brand by building upon your brand’s existing assets or tapping into trends to keep your brand relevant. Using pattern as part of your brand’s visual storytelling is powerful and keeps customers coming back for more.
Pattern doesn’t have to be used only on products. Pattern can be used as part of the environment surrounding your product. Pattern can be beneficial to use on your shipping boxes, tissue paper, shopping bags or store wallpaper. If your business provides services, pattern can be powerful on your business card, in the background of your website or on social media to help grab your followers’ attention.
Pattern makes brands, products and ideas:
+ STAND OUT AS RECOGNIZABLE
+ CONVEY A STORY IN A UNIQUE, EMOTIONAL WAY
+ MORE DESIRABLE TO CONSUMERS
